Let’s face it. 2020 changed us. We’re forever transformed, for better or worse, by what we went through this last year. It’s no surprise then that, as we reflect and look to 2021, that our plans, hopes, and goals may have changed as well. If you’re pondering what your resolutions should be in a post-2020 world, here is a great list of ideas.

  1. Write snail mail. In 2020 there was a lot of simplifying and getting back to basics. One way to do that is to reconnect with people by sending letters. It’s a great way to slow down and spend quiet time, too.
  2. Try something new each month. It can be anything from a hobby to a new restaurant. But trying new things is a great way to spend quality time slowing down and enriching your life.
  3. Start doing daily themes or devotionals. A word for the day, or a thought, or message, can help focus your mind and priorities for the day. Daily devotionals are used in prayer and meditation to focus the mind and set the tone for the day.
  4. Start meal planning. This is a game-changer. Meal planning takes away so much stress and disorganization. It also helps with the weekly grocery budget because you’re only buying what you need for the week.
  5. Support local restaurants. Make a point of setting a regular date night or lunch with a friend to help our local restaurants get back on their feet. You don’t have to spend a lot of money, either. But if everyone does a little, it makes a big difference.
  6. Walk a mile a day. This may not seem like much, or for some it may seem unrealistic. But getting in those extra steps every day is great exercise and it also gives you some meditative time to yourself. Or, invite a friend to go with you for some socially distanced girl-time.
  7. Keep a gratitude journal. Each evening, think about the one thing that happened that day that you are most thankful for and write about it. It’s a great way to end the day on a positive.
  8. Declutter. As Marie Kondo says, if it doesn’t give you joy, get rid of it.
  9. Take safe trips. State and national parks are perfect family road trips. And, you get to be outdoors!
  10. Read more books. There are a ton of great new books hitting the shelves in 2021. Check out our list of our top 10!
  11. Volunteer. There thousands of ways to help out in our local communities. Find your passion and give your time.
  12. Start owning house plants. This is calming, a great way to decorate, and lots of fun. Plants add life (and oxygen) to our spaces.
  13. Make your bed every morning. It may seem like a small thing, but making your bed every day is said to set the tone for success the rest of the day.
  14. Take a hot bath at night for better sleep. Research says if you have trouble falling asleep, a hot bath an hour or two before bedtime helps a lot.
  15. Dance more. If you’re looking for a workout that will stick, try dancing. It’s a full-body workout that is great cardio but also helps with strengthening as well. Plus it’s fun. Put on your favorite dance music and freestyle, or find a great class or online program.
